In 2025, the Fischgut Primus aquaculture facility in Iserlohn comprehensively renovated and upgraded the energy efficiency of its hall roofs in order to install a high-performance photovoltaic system. As part of the renovation, the roof surfaces were completely insulated. This reduces heat loss from the buildings and significantly lowers the energy required to heat the aquaculture halls.
Another key objective of the measure was to install a photovoltaic system with a large electricity storage facility. The renewable energy generated is used on site and fed directly into the heating water system via integrated heating elements. This means that part of the heat supply for fish farming can be covered sustainably and cost-efficiently from the company’s own electricity production.
The measure began in early 2025 and was successfully completed at the end of 2025. It makes an important contribution to improving energy efficiency, reducing operating costs, and making aquaculture production more sustainable.
This investment was supported by funds from the European Maritime, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF).
